From Oban northwards, the route keeps a watchful eye on Loch Linnhe’s shimmering stretch. At times the road hugs the shore so closely you can almost touch the tide, and at others it eases inland for short woodland detours. As the western horizons close in, Fort William emerges beneath the towering presence of Ben Nevis and surrounding peaks. It’s a stretch that transitions you from sea to summit — and from casual scenic touring to true Highland exploration.
