About

Winter Work Week brings people together at Iona Abbey Centre to help prepare the Abbey accommodation for its winter rest. It is designed for energetic participants who enjoy practical, hands-on work and are happy to get involved.

Across six nights, guests join the Abbey’s daily rhythm while contributing to a range of seasonal tasks. Work may include gardening, painting, cleaning and preparing worship spaces. The programme also makes space for worship, shared meals and time spent getting to know fellow participants.

The quieter period at the end of the visitor season offers an opportunity to experience Iona at a different pace. There is time to unwind and explore the island, alongside the shared purpose of the work itself.

Past participants have valued the chance to work towards a common task, make new friendships and share plenty of laughter. The week finishes with a ceilidh celebration.
