Explore the seasonsHighland scenery, moderated by the Atlantic
Four seasons.
Countless reasons to explore.
Sunshine on a sheltered shore, clear views through the glens and long evenings beside the sea. The WC300 travels through a series of local climates, with dry, settled spells as well as changeable weather.
The Atlantic moderates temperature extremes, often bringing milder winters to lower coastal areas than visitors expect. Mountains, glens and sea lochs each have their own conditions; snow and ice remain possible, even at road level.

A little preparation
Ready for the day
Bring layers, comfortable water-resistant footwear and a waterproof jacket. A sunny 12 °C / 54 °F can feel warm in shelter and much cooler in wind or rain.
A word about midges
Midges are most noticeable from late spring to early autumn in still, damp, sheltered places. Breezes and sunshine reduce activity. Repellent and a head net are useful for camping or lingering outdoors; conditions matter more than the calendar.
What to pack
- Waterproof jacket and water-resistant footwear
- Warm mid-layer and lightweight base layers
- Hat and gloves outside summer
- Sun protection; midge repellent in season
- Spare dry clothing for outdoor days
- Reusable water bottle and power bank
